creative writing - write anything to get started.

Creative writing is a popular past time especially among women of a certain age, perhaps we feel at this time of life we have something to say or the time to say it. this week I joined nine other ladies in a workshop for short story writing. Each of us had varying degrees of experiences from self published playwrights to award winning poets, teachers and those with a passing interest. Celia Bryce our facilitator gave us a few interesting topics to get our teeth into from describing a room, a corner to a pair of shoes. As a writer I usually start with a poem and then from that create a story, play or perhaps a song so it was no surprise my classroom excercise which was meant to be the start of a short story ended up as a poem. This is the finished offering having played around with it afterwards at home. it won't make it into my planned book of poems this time ,as that's a collection of poems about the seasons soon to be released on Amazon this month, but who knows it maybe in the next one..... follow me on twitter @scripts4stage  or read other poems and plays at www.scripts4stage.comwww.scripts4stage.com My new book of poetry. A Poem for All Seaons will be out soon
BROWN SHOES
Flat, brown shoes are jealous -
jealous of the black high heels,
longing to dance the Tango
and know how the rhythm feels
but they can barely manage
to flop up the garden path.
 Black high heels,
(their dancing days done)
remain upstairs in the dark.

Flat brown shoes are lazy -
can’t be bothered to face the day,
jumbled with pumps and slippers;
weather-beaten leather hid away
until, grabbed for convenience,
they stumble and slip-slop again;
worn but comfy and easy…
‘though scruffy and muddy with rain.

They don’t care for the high-life
as they shuffle their way through the park.
 They laugh to themselves as they ponder
 those black high heels in the dark.
Brown shoes may never Tango
but old feet need an old friend
and the black high heels in the wardrobe
will never see daylight again.
